Workers' Compensation, Set Up the Right Way

It's more than a required coverage — it protects your employees and your business when it matters most.

Why It Matters

Workers' compensation is often treated as a box to check, but it can have a major impact on both an injured employee and the business that employs them. At Synergy, we pay close attention to how a policy is set up — not just what it costs.

Class codes matter

Payroll matters

Ownership / officer treatment can matter

Subcontractor exposure can matter

Misclassification can create expensive audit problems

State Requirements

Minnesota

Minnesota generally requires employers to carry workers' compensation coverage for employees or be approved to self-insure.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin requirements are more specific. Coverage is generally required when an employer has three or more full-time or part-time employees, or when one or more employees are paid combined gross wages of $500 or more in a calendar quarter for work done in Wisconsin. Farm rules are separate.

For Transportation Operations

For transportation businesses, workers' comp can interact with occupational accident coverage, driver classification, fleet operations, and contract requirements. Understanding how these pieces fit together is part of how we approach this coverage for transportation clients.
